Doctor Ludger Kolbe

Ludger Kolbe, Chief Scientist at Beiersdorf AG, started his career in immunobiology but focused on experimental dermatology later on.

At Beiersdorf Research & Development he has held various positions in research on sensitive skin, inflammatory skin conditions and photobiology. Currently, he directs the research on skin pigmentation and photoprotection. His key responsibility is the identification of new protective mechanisms for dermatological skin care. This led to a multitude of international patents and original papers in scientific journals and the discovery of highly effective ingredients for topical skin care products, e.g., Licochalcone A and Thiamidol.

Dr. Kolbe is member of the Society of Investigative Dermatology, the German Society for Immunology, the European Society for Photobiology, European Society for Pigment Cell Research and serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals. He also is a member of Cosmetics Europe committee on Sun Protection and the ISO expert team for Sun Protection Methods.
