Professor Tae-Hyuk Kwon

Tae-Hyuk Kwon earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Suwon University and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea. He is now a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and the Dean of Natural Science at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). Before his current role, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Melbourne, Australia, under Prof. Andrew B. Holmes. His research focuses on wave energy materials that utilize light or sonic energy to address global challenges in energy, environment, food, and health. To this end, his group is developing molecular engineering strategies for photosensitizers and exploring mechanisms and systems to effectively absorb or convert energy. Their applications include photorechargeable batteries using indoor light, green catalysts for CO2 reduction or biomass conversion into aviation fuel, and dynamic therapies utilizing photo or sono-energy.
