Professor Dmitri Krysko

Prof. Dr. Dmitri Krysko earned his MD in 1998 from the Medical State University of Saratov, Russia, and his PhD in 2006 from Ghent University, Belgium. After completing several postdoctoral positions, he became an associate professor and head of the Laboratory of Cell Death Research and Therapy (CDIT) at Ghent University in 2016. In 2023, he was elected as a member of the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine.

The CDIT lab primarily focuses on understanding the role of different regulated cell death modalities in cancer and developing new experimental cell-based cancer immunotherapies. The team achieved a groundbreaking discovery in ferroptosis immunogenicity and the development of novel glioma immunotherapy, which is based on a dendritic cell vaccine and immunogenic cell death induced by photodynamic therapy. Prof. Krysko’s contributions have been recognized with the GSK Vaccine 2019 Immunology Award and the AstraZeneca Foundation 2019 Oncology Award. Prof. Krysko has published 130 articles, accrued 19235 citations and holds an H-index of 59 (Google Scholar).
